“Your children are not a masterpiece that you create. They are their own masterpiece, creating themselves, and you have been given the privilege of watching them be the artist.” ~ J. Warren Welch.

Evie, never before have I been so aware of this great privilege than when I watched you perform in your final end of year ballet and troupe concert on Thursday 28th November. You were your absolute own masterpiece, creating your world, dancing in your way, expressing exactly who you are.

You have been dancing since you were 4 years old….

…And to this day you are often the one waiting quietly in the side lines…..patiently watching, learning and knowing that your moment on stage will come. And that’s when I see a confidence unbeknown to most people, exude from your every being.

I sit in the audience, my heart beating nervously, and I watch with complete admiration and awe as you really do dance like no-one is watching. My gorgeous Evie, the ever-quiet one who runs onto that stage as though it is exactly where you are meant to be. With not a care in the world and the never-ending opportunity to create your perfect own masterpiece.

On Thursday night you were recognised for your hard work and determination. You received an award for the most improved dancer at Kim Factor School of Dance. I don’t think I will ever be able to accurately describe to you how much pride was bursting from my body when you went up to receive your trophy. From those early classes when you were still in kinder, your love for dance has blossomed like a slow-growing beautiful plant. You seem to understand and apply the intricate balance of working hard to constantly improve, whilst keeping your passion and desire to just dance for the sake of dancing.

Evie sweetheart, I love that you have found “your thing”. I hope you continue to dance for many many years, and I will always remember the privileged moments that I get to watch you create your spectacular masterpiece.
